Quantum Days 2026
In February 2026, I attended Quantum Days 2026, Canada's premier quantum science and technology conference, held February 18–20 in Victoria, British Columbia. The conference brought together over 400 researchers, industry professionals, students, investors, and policymakers for talks, an exhibitor floor, a research poster session, a startup zone, and a career fair.
As part of the conference, I toured the Sensing and Quantum Materials research group at UVic's Centre for Advanced Materials & Related Technology (CAMTEC), getting a firsthand look at the labs and shared equipment behind their light-based science and engineering research — spanning light-matter interactions, photonics, quantum materials, electron microscopy, and quantum information.
What I Learned
Light-matter interactions: plasmonics, spectroscopy, surfaces, nonlinear optics, and photovoltaics
Photonics: photonic technologies, quantum optical measurement, microwave photonics, and optomechanics
Quantum materials: superconducting materials, particle accelerators, and quantum properties
Quantum information: computational methods for modelling materials and molecules
